Reading Intervention Collaborative Core Trainings - EDC-X727X
Course Description
Credit Validation for Learning at the Primary Pond Participants Only
The trainings in the Reading Intervention Collaborative provide teachers with an overview of the principles of Structured Literacy (evidence-based literacy instruction) in whole group and intervention settings. Teachers learn about evidence-based best practices in all "Big Five" areas of reading (phonological / phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension).
With this foundation in place, teachers then move on to learning about specific reading difficulties like dyslexia. They learn to identify characteristics of students who struggle with word reading, comprehension, or both. Next, teachers learn a variety of evidence-based intervention strategies designed to target the Big Five areas of reading. Teachers also learn about providing reading intervention to specific student populations, like English Language Learners.
