Course Description

Learn How America's Top Leadership Position Has Influenced America and Can Add to Your Classroom Teaching

This course is designed for K-12 educators, and community college level instructors, who are interested in furthering their knowledge of American presidents to present to their students. American presidents through several different eras of United States history will be examined.  How the role of the president has changed over time will be analyzed.  Participants will be guided by an audio course, published by the Recorded Book's Modern Scholar, and provided supplemental material.  As a final cumulative project, participants will design engaging lesson plans and a presentation to compare and contrast different presidencies.

Learner Outcomes

  • Compare and contrast the presidential eras in American history
  • Evaluate the role of the American president and how it has changed over time
  • Identify the key social, economic and military events that shaped presidential eras
  • Design engaging lesson plans highlighting the similarities and differences between presidential eras

Number of Units: 2.0 graduate level extension credit(s) in semester hours

Who Should Attend: This course provides continuing education for teachers (Grade K-14) looking to foster a deeper appreciation for history and social science and instill the same in their students
