Course Description
Begin Exploration and History into Today's Classroom
Historical Spotlights - Native America is designed with both the K-14 educator and the life-long learner in mind. Through this course participants will look into the general history of Native American tribes throughout the United States and have the opportunity to explore the issues surrounding modern Native communities. You will be guided by an audio course, published by the Recorded Book's Modern Scholar. With a culminating opportunity to reflect and analyze the course content, participants will create a final project in the form of a virtual museum that will certainly enhance any educator’s understanding of the Native American community both past and present, also allowing them to utilize the content within the classroom in the form of a lesson plan.

- Analyze scholarly perspectives on the historical legacies of Native American peoples
- Discuss issues facing Modern Native America
- Reflect on professional practices and strategies for teaching Native American history in the classroom
- Create a virtual museum and lesson plan
Course Details
Number of Units: 2.0 graduate level extension credit(s) in semester hours
Who Should Attend: This course provides continuing education for teachers (Grade K-14) looking to foster a deeper appreciation for history and social science and instill the same in their students
