Credit Validation for National History Day Participants Only

National History Day® (NHD) offers a course for teachers focused on African American history. The course includes four live webinars led by expert historians and NHD curriculum specialists. It highlights four emerging topics in African American history, which are explored in-depth with leading experts. Participants will engage with the latest scholarship, take part in the live sessions, and develop a classroom activity incorporating primary sources and active learning strategies.

Learner Outcomes

  • Identify four new trends in scholarship in African American History
  • Apply active learning strategies to engage students with primary sources from the era
  • Select primary sources from the time period appropriate for use in the teacher's classroom
  • Practice skills by participating in four live webinar programs with leading historians and NHD curriculum specialists
  • Discuss content in a small group of teachers with similar teaching assignments to help solve common challenges
  • Create a classroom activity that incorporates primary sources and active learning strategies
