Course Description

Credit Validation for DoDEA Participants Only

This course allows participants to further explore major cultural shifts and discuss or debate their potential impact on students' social-emotional development and behavior, as well as strategies for addressing these issues in an educational setting. The readings build on concepts introduced in the original New Normal course (not a prerequisite) and are selected to promote critical thinking and dialogue, rather than offer definitive answers. Participants will read the selected titles and meet virtually with their Professional Learning Team to share insights and make both personal and professional connections. A final reflection paper will be submitted to the instructor at the end of the course.

Learner Outcomes

  • Analyze modern cultural shifts that may impact child development and behavior
  • Evaluate changes in student behavior within the educational setting and their potential impact on independence, emotional health, etc
  • Develop potential strategies that can be implemented within their individual scope of practice
  • Recognize behavioral "red flags" and identify resources for when additional help or expertise is needed
