Course Description

Identify Components of Project Contract Management

This course offers an in-depth exploration of construction contract administration, focusing on the preparation, coordination, and execution of critical project documentation, submittals, and quality management systems. Students will examine the roles and responsibilities of key project participants, including contractors, owners, and design professionals across preconstruction, construction, and post-construction phases, while addressing compliance, safety, and communication standards. Through practical application of industry best practices, students will develop the skills to manage project workflows, assess regulatory requirements, and support successful project delivery.

Learner Outcomes

  • Identify, interpret, and apply key contract documents - including specifications, submittals, and revisions - while ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and procedural requirements throughout the construction process
  • Prepare, organize, and oversee essential preconstruction elements such as submittals, project buyout, permitting, site assessment, and mobilization plans to establish a strong foundation for project success
  • Apply quality management principles and tools, integrating Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) practices to monitor and enforce performance standards and ensure adherence to contract requirements
  • Evaluate the roles, responsibilities, and interdependencies of owners, contractors, architects/engineers, and other stakeholders across various project delivery methods to support effective collaboration and project execution
  • Develop and maintain critical project schedules - including construction progress, submittals, and schedules of values - and implement processes for inspections, supervision, and progress verification
  • Analyze how construction-phase practices, documentation, and post-construction evaluations contribute to long-term operational effectiveness, facility management, and continuous project improvement
