Course Description
End Human Trafficking: Recognize the Signs from the Healthcare Frontline
Human trafficking is a modern form of slavery involving the use of force, fraud, or coercion to induce an individual to perform labor or commercial sex acts. Healthcare workers are on the frontline of recognizing and caring for trafficked persons. Up to 68% of trafficked persons access health care while being trafficked with 56% of these individuals being seen in an emergency department. Yet despite the extent of the problem, only a small percentage (as low as 2%) of healthcare providers and emergency personnel have received training on human trafficking. This course trains medical personnel and students about the phenomenon of human trafficking, how to recognize red flags and health problems associated with trafficking, and provide safe and appropriate health care for trafficked persons.
