Course Description

Credit Validation for DoDEA Participants Only

This course will allow participants to gain a deeper understanding of emotional/mental health issues impacting students. Participants will read 4 non-fiction texts. The group will also discuss other texts as resources to use in increasing awareness of mental health concerns for both teachers and students at school throughout the course of the school year. They will discuss the books with a Professional Learning Team and make connections to their lives and their teaching, with a focus on supporting students and teachers. A final reflection project and methods to increase well-being at school will be submitted to the instructor at the end of the course.

  • Learn Mental Health diagnoses and ways these can impact students and their learning
  • Understand ways to help introverted students in their classrooms
  • Learn and understand ways anxiety and self-harm are negatively impacting our students and ways to help
