Course Description

Credit Validation for AVID/Code.org Participants Only

In this course, educators will be taught how to introduce students to software engineering and object-oriented design while learning the Java programming language. Educators will be trained to teach CSA as either an AP or non-AP class; regardless, either option requires a full year to teach (or 140+ course hours). The AP® Computer Science A curriculum teachers will be trained to use will empower them to teach students to use Java programming. Educators who are able to independently write and debug an error-free function (or procedure) with one or more parameters and that uses conditional logic, loops, and an array (or a list) will be best positioned to teach Code.org's CSA curriculum with students.

Who Should Attend: This course provides continuing education for high school classroom educators; those who work teaching high school students in non-traditional educational environments; those who support or assist in teaching in high school educational environments; or pre-service educators seeking to teach high school students in the future. High school educators would directly benefit the most from the subject matter, though high school students themselves would indirectly derive the most benefit via being taught the CSP curriculum by a trained educator.

Prerequisites

Participants should be those who are able to independently write and debug an error-free function (or procedure) with one or more parameters and that uses conditional logic, loops, and an array (or a list).
