Course Description
Credit Validation for Slingerland Participants Only
This course covers a four-week or six week period of intensive study. After a brief review of the basic components in the introductory course, participants will be introduced to and practice more advanced techniques in the language continuum. The use of the dictation paragraph and the screening procedures will also be presented. Course objectives:
- To provide guided observation of the evaluative and prescriptive elements embedded in the daily plan
- To practice identifying and recommending strategies for effective instruction when working with one or more children
- To relate oral language skills to writing and reading skills
- To understand the vertical and horizontal use of the format for instruction
- To integrate new learning throughout format
- To practice instruction in critical thinking skills needed for reading, writing and speaking
- To understand current research in all aspects of dyslexia
- To learn to administer and evaluate the Slingerland® Screening materials
Learner Outcomes
- Refine skills in individualizing the Slingerland® Approach for students
- Apply instruction in oral language skills to paragraph dictation
- Expand the implementation of the daily language arts lesson in the Slingerland® Approach to Language Arts
- Administer and evaluation Slingerland Screening Procedures

Who Should Attend: Teachers interested in meeting the needs of students with specific language disability who struggle with reading, writing and spelling
