Credit Validation for DoDEA Participants Only
As a community of learners, it is important to establish a social support network where a common language can enhance professional dialog around a focused topic. This course is a book study which will allow each participant to select one of three books to read with the intention of deepening one’s understanding for the concepts presented in the book. The book choices are:
- 5 Practices for Orchestrating Productive Mathematics Discussion, Second Edition by Margaret S. Smith and Mary K. Stein
- Disciplinary Literacy in Action: How to Create and Sustain a School-Wide Culture of Deep Reading, Writing, and Thinking by ReLeah Cossett Lent and Marsha McCracken Voigt
- Instructional Rounds in Education: A Network Approach to Improving Teaching and Learning by Elizabeth City, Richard Elmore, et. al.
Learner Outcomes
- Engage in cross curricular collaboration between participants reading one of the three texts
- Implement instructional strategies aimed at maximizing instructional delivery to increase student performance
- Develop a lesson, short unit of study, or professional interaction which incorporates an instructional strategy acquired throughout the course
- Utilize action research to experience the instructional strategy with students or colleagues and present evidence (i.e., student work, collaboration discussion, etc.) for professional dialogue

Number of Units: 2.0 graduate level extension credit(s) in semester hours
