Course Description
Credit Validation for Dyslexia Training Institute Participants Only
Participants will learn how to become effective advocates for parents/caregivers of students with dyslexia. This will include: developing an understanding of the Individuals with Disabilities and Education Act (IDEA); FAPE; developing effective IEPs or 504s; how to request and receive appropriate services and interventions; appropriate accommodations; letter writing, dispute processes and resolutions, as they all relate to a student with dyslexia. Participants will complete a case study.
Learner Outcomes
- Define dyslexia to effectively explain it to parents/caregivers and school personnel
- Recognize the role of an advocate and when to refer parents/caregivers to an attorney
- Evaluate IDEA law as it relates to dyslexia
- Locate the state's Ed Code as it relates to Special Education
- Review and understand assessment and evaluations
- Evaluate and develop IEPs or 504 Plans for a student with dyslexia
- Understand the steps to dispute resolution
