Course Description

Credit Validation for National Geographic Society Online Course Participants Only

Service learning is a powerful teaching tool that integrates meaningful service to the community into a rigorous academic curriculum.  With service learning, educators can engage students with real-world challenges and help them become agents of change.

Service learning embraces the National Geographic Learning Framework by guiding students to develop the attitudes and skills of National Geographic Explorers while learning critical knowledge and taking action.

In this course, educators will build background knowledge and acquire the tools necessary to facilitate successful service-learning projects with their students. They will also develop an action plan that will tie service learning to their curriculum goals so they will be prepared to implement service learning in the future. Through service learning, educators can inspire students to see connections between their own actions, the health of their community, and the well-being of the entire world.
