Course Description

Begin this Exploration and Bring History into Today's Classroom

This course is designed for K-14 educators to develop an appreciation for the Trojan War. You will be guided by an audio course (which averages seven hours), published by the Recorded Book's Modern Scholar, in a journey that begins by studying and reflecting on the Trojan War. Focus will be on an examination of the Trojan War using archaeological and literary evidence.  As a final project, you will create a virtual learning experience for K-14 students.

Learner Outcomes

  • Examine archaelogical and literary evidence of the Trojan War
  • Discern the quality and relevance of the archaelogical and literary evidence of the Trojan War
  • Reflect on ways that the search for evidence of the Trojan War is relevant today
  • Utilize material related to the Trojan War to create media-rich instruction for K-14 students

Course Details

Number of Units: 2.0 graduate level extension credit(s) in semester hours

Who Should Attend: This course provides continuing education for teachers (Grades K-14) looking to foster a deeper appreciation for history and social science and instill the same in their students

Course Materials: Audio Course, The Modern Scholar: Archaeology and the Iliad: The Trojan War in Homer and History by Eric Cline, available online at audible.com, iTunes, and Amazon.com to download.  Materials may also be available at or from: eBay, Craig's List, public libraries, or your school library.
