Course Description

Sharpen Your Leadership Skills as a Coach, While Instilling the Same with Your Students

Developing and sustaining leadership in a program takes organization and planning. There are many phases in competitive sports that are not measured in terms of wins or losses, but rather in the leadership development of the student athlete. Coaches are on the field and in the locker room not only to teach players how to win, but also to lead them to success both on the field and in any profession they choose to pursue. Coaches have the unique opportunity to impart habits that will lead athletes to excellence throughout their lives by teaching them the value of loyalty, integrity, and teamwork. “Once you know how to work with people, you can accomplish anything.” (Holtz, 1998, p. 52).

In this course, you will learn the importance of developing leadership within an entire organization and the benefits of approaching every situation with a positive attitude. You will examine professional behaviors and approaches to winning that will ensure that players who leave your program will having enjoyed relating to their coaches and peers, feel better about themselves, as well as having improved their skills.
