Course Description

Begin this Exploration and Bring History into Today's Classroom

This course is designed to help K-12 educators develop an appreciation for the history, culture, contributions and legacy of Ancient Rome. It begins with the founding of Rome and ends with the fall of the Western Empire. Participants will create a lesson plan that utilizes a virtual learning experience to teach K-12 students about the enduring ideas and achievements of Ancient Rome as part of their final project.

Learner Outcomes

  • Identify key events in Roman history from its founding to the fall of the Western Empire
  • Describe the culture and contributions of Ancient Rome from its founding to the fall of the Western Empire
  • Design an engaging lesson that utilizes a virtual museum to teach students about the enduring ideas and achievements of Ancient Rome

Number of Units: 2.0 graduate level extension credit(s) in semester hours

Who Should Attend: This course provides continuing education for teachers (Grades K-14) looking to foster a deeper appreciation for history and social science, and instill the same in their students

Course Materials: Audio Course, The Modern Scholar: The History of Ancient Rome by Frances Titchene, available online at audible.com, iTunes, and Amazon.com to download.  Materials may also be available at or from: eBay, Craig's List, public libraries, or your school library.
