Course Description

Credit Validation for DoDEA Participants Only

In this course, participants will build on their previous knowledge of High-Quality Instructional Practices (HQIP) introduced during SY 2023–2024 and SY 2024–2025. During the SY 2025–2026 HQIP professional learning, they will focus on planning standards-aligned instruction that fosters learner agency, monitors progress toward grade-level DoDEA CCR standards, and supports clear communication with families.

This course involves 15 hours of professional learning that builds upon each of the five CCR professional learning sessions that occur during the 2025-26 school year. Participants will explore ways to design instruction using success criteria to clarify learning expectations, promote learner agency, and monitor student progress across content areas. They will see how a structured standards analysis can help ensure instructional clarity and coherence. Participants will also understand how intentional planning through a standards analysis supports the move toward elementary standards-aligned performance reporting (ESAPR).

Throughout the course, participants will develop a comprehensive understanding of evidence-based practices to apply within their own teaching context. They will collaborate with colleagues in this course as they share and provide feedback on student artifacts that represent the implementation of a new instructional practice. Participants will also reflect on changes in their practice, both before and after implementing a strategy from the CCR professional learning.

Learner Outcomes

• Plan standards-aligned Tier 1 instruction using success criteria and formative assessments to foster learner agency

• Apply strategies to evaluate student work and provide specific, timely, and actionable feedback aligned to success criteria

• Design a student-centered learning environment by co-developing success criteria and implementing peer feedback and self-evaluation strategies

• Explain the research and processes behind performance reporting to clearly communicate student progress toward grade-level standards

• Develop student goal-setting practices that use proficiency scales and future-ready competencies to promote ownership of learning

The University of San Diego partners with this program to offer graduate-level extension credit(s) in semester hours through the Credit Validation Program. To earn units, participants must register for and successfully complete coursework through the external program provider.

Credits earned through USD’s Credit Validation Program are widely accepted by many school districts and universities across the United States for purposes such as license renewal, required professional development hours, short-term skill building, salary advancement, credentialing, and potential advanced degree pathways.

These units do not apply toward a master’s or higher degree program at the University of San Diego; however, they may be transferable to advanced degree programs (e.g., MA, EdD, PhD) at other institutions that accept external graduate-level credits.

Participants are responsible for confirming acceptance, transcript requirements, deadlines, and applicability of units with their employing district or intended institution prior to enrollment.

Transcript Process: Final grades submitted by the program provider will initiate the transcript process. Grades should be submitted within 7 days of the official course end date or the course enrollment deadline—whichever comes last. Participants are responsible for ensuring their mailing address is accurate and up to date in their USD student account to avoid delays in transcript delivery.
