Course Description

Credit Validation for DoDEA Participants Only

Core Instruction provides a wealth of relevant pedagogy and AVID strategies that are appropriate across all age groups and student grade levels. With a focus on academic language, discourse, and inquiry-based instruction, educators will explore how to leverage AVID's evidence-based instructional best practices to support the diverse needs of all students. This course is designed for teacher leaders to both utilize and facilitate strategies from the Core Instruction Modules within their respective school sites. Teacher leaders will facilitate the Core Instruction Module synchronously for full staff, AVID site teams, or by department.

Learner Outcomes

  • Deliver Core Instruction strategies with confidence, enhancing professional agency and contributing to a supportive and collaborative educational community
  • Analyze Core Instruction strategies to connect best practices with current practices
  • Identify and utilize multiple Core Instruction strategies, as evidenced by lesson plans, filmed sessions, and/or reflection
  • Strengthen facilitator skills through synchronous facilitation and/or co-facilitation of the Core Instruction Module
  • Create connections between Core Instruction, best practices, and respective Region, District, and School Action Plans
