Course Description

Credit Validation for SDCOE Participants Only

This course will focus on developmentally appropriate practices in early childhood education. Students will build upon their prior knowledge of children’s development and theories of learning, using The California Preschool Learning Foundations. Considering various models of developmentally appropriate practice, students will use The California Preschool Curriculum Framework to plan for learning in all content areas. Participants will also engage in reflections and discussions on how to ensure the needs of all learners are met.

Learner Outcomes

  • Demonstrate an understanding of The California Preschool Curriculum Foundations and Frameworks
  • Explain what developmentally appropriate practices looks like in early childhood education classrooms
  • Apply developmentally appropriate practices to early childhood teaching practices through lesson planning design

Number of Units: 3.0 graduate level extension credit(s) in semester hours

Who Should Attend: This course provides continuing education for Multiple Subject credentialed teachers needing ECE units to teach TK.

Prerequisites

Students enrolling in this course must have successfully completed EDC-X711W AND EDC-X712W OR EDC-X724U, a bachelor’s degree, and California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential.
