This course is designed to empower educators, leaders, and staff to create equitable learning environments where excellent instruction, engaging relationships and empowered individuals are at the heart of the work we do for our students. We will do this by increasing knowledge that supports social, emotional, resilience and academic skills. The course will offer opportunities to reflect on how to:
- Infuse best practices that promote social, emotional, resilience and academic excellence
- Understand and build on social and emotional intelligence for self and others
- Incorporate SEL activities into the fabric of the school culture
Learner Outcomes
- Share, read, discuss and reflect on the text and other scholarly work
- Engage in social and emotional learning practices utilizing the book’s “HEART in Mind” strategies
- Participate in dialogue and reflect on social and emotional learning as it relates to creating an equitable and just school culture
- Discuss strategies that support empathy, compassion, and open mindedness in a way that transforms both teaching and learning
- Implement practices that are socially just and universally designed to maintain learning environments that foster equity, provide choices, and elevate and celebrate student and educator voices
