Course Description

Credit Validation for DoDEA Participants Only

Teachers will read the 2021 AMLE publication, The Successful Middle School This We Believe by Bishop and Harrison and Lead with Instructional Rounds by Vicki Wilson (2020). Discussions, reflections, and experiential opportunities (teacher rounds) will enhance the groups understanding of Excellent Instruction as defined by DoDEA (RAP), Instructionally Focused Interactions (DAP), and professional learning centered on current and effect practices that support student-centered learning, student engagement, and productive struggle (LWTs 1,5,9) per the School SAP.

Learner Outcomes

  • Understand the current issues of middle level education and their relationship to your current teaching community.
    • Current Issues to be examined: Culture and Community; curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment; Leadership and Organization; and Young Adolescent Development and Implications for Educators
  • Develop a baseline understanding of Teacher Instructional Rounds with a focus on transparent and positive experiences for all volunteer
  • Implement and participate in at least one teacher (instructional) round before the end of the course
  • Complete a reflection paper synthesizing the information acquired through the texts and the experience of the teacher (instructional) round
