Course Description

Credit Validation for Pilgrimage of the Heart Yoga Participants Only

This course in Indian Spiritual Philosophy is an exploration of the philosophy that underpins the practice of yoga. Graduates of this program will gain an understanding of the ways in which the yogic lifestyle intersects with the philosophical ideals presented in the key texts of ancient wisdom. Focus will be given to the concepts of karma, dharma, meditation, and other principles which have grown out of this foundation.

Learner Outcomes

  • Have a fundamental understanding of the different schools of philosophical thought arising from ancient India
  • Understand the concept of reincarnation; the forms of bhakti , raja, tantra and karma yoga; and how these ideas work together within a yogic lifestyle
  • Have a working knowledge of and experience with the practices of mantra and meditation
  • Make connections between spiritual philosophy and the potential for self-realization
