Course Description
Credit Validation for The Laboratory Safety Institute Participants Only
Students registered for lab safety short courses with The Laboratory Safety Institute (LSI) can obtain one to three graduate credits through LSI’s affiliation with USD. The three options listed in course sections reflect only the USD fee for credit validation and transcript. Additional course project work is required through LSI.
These intensive short courses (presented over one to five days) cover the fundamentals of lab safety and effective lab safety programs. Topics vary with course length. Course outlines are on the LSI website.
These topics include: scope of the problem, accidents, legal aspects, emergency planning, chemical handling, chemical storage, biological and animal hazards, eye and face protection, chemical disposal, electrical safety, radiation, handling glassware, record-keeping, needs assessment, employee involvement, the OSHA Lab Standard, fire control, your worst problem, safety equipment, ventilation, and safety program planning.
This short course is intended for industrial, government, medical, and both secondary and post secondary academic institutions. You can attend live either in person or remotely via web conferencing. In addition, LSI offers lab safety short course on-demand via the internet.
