AI-Amplified PBL: Bringing the PBL Journey to Life - EDC-X750AA
Course Description
Credit Validation for Ed3 Participants Only
This course guides educators through a complete Project-Based Learning (PBL) journey, with artificial intelligence (AI) positioned as a thought partner throughout the design process. Educators move through the full arc of PBL by establishing a values-aligned foundation for using AI, cultivating an authentic challenge and driving question, deepening inquiry across disciplines, building real-world connections, designing for learner agency, developing feedback and iteration routines, showcasing learning through public products, and planning for sustainable practice as AI continues to evolve.
Across the modules, educators partner with AI for brainstorming, research, perspective-taking, and reflection while keeping learner voice, human relationships, and educator discernment at the center of every design decision. By the end of the course, educators will have designed a capstone PBL unit that integrates AI thoughtfully in service of the learner experience.
Learner Outcomes
- Design a complete Project-Based Learning (PBL) experience that moves learners through the full arc of challenge, inquiry, real-world connection, agency, feedback, and public product
- Craft an authentic challenge and driving question developed and refined with AI as a thought partner while preserving the human insight and community context that make PBL meaningful
- Integrate AI purposefully across a capstone PBL unit by discerning where partnering with AI strengthens the learning experience and where educator discernment, learner voice, and human connection must remain central

Credits earned through USD’s Credit Validation Program are widely accepted by many school districts and universities across the United States for purposes such as license renewal, required professional development hours, short-term skill building, salary advancement, credentialing, and potential advanced degree pathways.
These units do not apply toward a master’s or higher degree program at the University of San Diego; however, they may be transferable to advanced degree programs (e.g., MA, EdD, PhD) at other institutions that accept external graduate-level credits.
