Have a More Respectful, Well-Regulated Classroom Environment

Self-management is a core Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) competency that focuses on the research-backed skills students need to regulate their emotions, manage stress, and control impulses. It offers a systematic and proactive approach to classroom management, empowering students to take direct ownership of their own behavior and learning success. In this course, you will identify the key components that comprise self-management and create an implementation plan to embed these strategies into your daily routines, fostering a respectful, regulated community that promotes student success.

Learner Outcomes

  • Explain the key elements of the Self-Management SEL competency and its role in promoting student emotional regulation, impulse control, and stress management
  • Explore developmentally appropriate self-management strategies and routines that support student ownership of behavior and learning
  • Create an implementation plan integrating self-management practices that contributes to more effective classroom management and fosters a respectful, well-regulated learning environment

Course Details

Number of Units: 3.0 graduate level extension credits in semester hours

Who Should Attend: K-12 Educators, School Administrative Teams, MTSS Teams who want to create a learning environment that meets the educational, emotional and social needs of all students.
