Course Description

New for Fall - Learn to Promote Safety and Quality of LIfe in Aging Populations

This graduate-level course examines the multidimensional determinants of health and wellness in older adults. Emphasis is placed on geriatric syndromes, medication safety, nutrition, cognitive and mental well-being, age-friendly health systems, and advance care planning. Students apply evidence-based frameworks to promote functional ability, safety, and quality of life in aging populations.

Learner Outcomes

  • Analyze biological, psychological, and social determinants of health in older adults
  • Apply the Geriatric 5Ms framework to promote functional ability and patient-centered care
  • Evaluate medication regimens using Beers Criteria and deprescribing principles
  • Assess nutritional, cognitive, and mental health factors affecting wellness
  • Integrate age-friendly system principles into individualized care planning
