National History Day® (NHD) is proud to partner with the National Cemetery Administration on the Veterans Legacy Project. In this program, teachers will guide their students in researching the life of an underserved veteran who served during the Korean War. The course includes four live webinars with an expert historian and an NHD curriculum specialist. Teachers will develop strategies to help their students think like historians, conduct original research, and draft a profile for publication by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and National History Day.
Learner Outcomes
- Place World War II in historical context through secondary research
- Gather original primary source materials from a variety of sources
- Examine military service records from the National Archives and Records Administration
- Enhance historical thinking skills by joining five live webinar sessions with leading historians and NHD curriculum specialists
- Use research organizers to verify factual information
- Compile a bibliography of research sources
- Create a profile for publication by the Veterans Administration and National History Day
