Course Description

This course is designed for School Nurses to learn and understand the essential components required to provide effective service to DoDEA students. Participants will engage in best practices for nursing skills and standardized procedures to address common emergency situations. The course will also cover the learning theory behind comprehensive School Threat Assessment, equipping nurses to confidently guide the assessment process when responding to student situations. Additional content includes data collection and report generation using the ASPEN Health system. School nurses will participate in virtual training modules developed for the CCR (Continuing Competency Requirements).

Participants are required to attend all sessions, collaborate with peers, and complete assigned projects aligned with DoDEA’s Future Ready initiative.

Learner Outcomes

  • Gain knowledge, skills, and confidence to participate in best practices in nursing assessment skills
  • Collaborate and engage in activities, discussions, and data-based decision-making teams to manage service provision, data monitoring, and logistics
  • Learn to integrate professional learning into daily nursing practice to enhance and evaluate the effectiveness of the nurse’s role in health assessments, chemical and substance use, first aid, and emergency care

University of San Diego – Academic Credit Information

The University of San Diego partners with this program to offer graduate-level academic credit. To receive credit, participants must first register and complete coursework through the external program provider.

Transcript Process: Final grades submitted by the program provider will initiate the transcript process.
