Course Description
Credit Validation for Kappel Consulting, LLC Participants Only
This course is designed for middle school mathematics teachers seeking to enhance the teaching and learning of mathematics. By the end of the day, teachers will leave with a list of manipulatives they can use in their classrooms to support students’ conceptual understanding of math standards.
Throughout the course, participants will engage in a variety of hands-on, meaningful math tasks that can be immediately implemented with their students. These tasks aim to support the development of mathematical thinkers—not just doers.
Attendees will walk away with their teaching toolkits fully stocked with strategies and resources to:
- Strengthen number sense
- Deepen conceptual understanding
- Explore the vertical alignment of content standards
- Create a more student-centered math classroom
Learner Outcomes
- Define what effective math intervention looks, sounds, and feels like in middle school mathematics
- Learn strategies for teaching middle school math conceptually
- Explore concrete and digital materials that support mathematical comprehension
- Discover various methods to support mathematical mastery in middle school
- Examine the vertical alignment of multiplication and division standards from 3rd grade through Algebra I
