Course Description

Credit Validation for CSPDWeek Participants Only

The Summer of CS is a research-backed professional learning program designed for teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, and counselors working in California public schools. This summer, multi-day workshops will be offered to help educators across California deliver equity-minded computer science (CS) instruction. Participants will receive tools and access to a network of support aimed at fostering the next generation of critical thinkers and problem solvers in our increasingly digitized world.

CSPD Week is a state-wide summer offering specifically for Grade 6–12 educators. A 30-hour time commitment is required to fulfill full and active participation in this professional learning opportunity. Participants will receive access to:

  • High-quality, no-cost professional learning facilitated by subject matter experts
  • Teacher-ready resources aligned with the California K–12 CS Standards
  • A community of educators passionate about teaching CS content
  • A daily stipend to compensate for full and active participation

Learner Outcomes

  • Implement CS instruction using the curriculum and pedagogical strategies provided through the CSPD Week workshop during the 2025/2026 school year
    • Commitment for Grade 6–8 Teachers and Paraprofessionals: 50 hours
    • Commitment for Grade 9–12 Teachers and Paraprofessionals: 75 hours (as a discrete CS course or implemented in an existing math, science, business, career technical education, or other elective course)
  • Prioritize the aforementioned instructional hours for a diverse group of students, including—but not limited to—students historically underrepresented in the field of CS
  • Participate in data collection activities, including surveys and focus group meetings, to inform EWIG:CS Seasons of CS' approach to CS professional learning and CS instruction implementation. These activities will be scheduled outside of traditional school hours

Eligibility for Participation and Stipend

California public school educators in grades 6–12 who engage in professional learning outside their regular work hours are eligible to participate and receive a stipend.

Due to the funding restrictions outlined in the Educator Workforce Investment Grant (EWIG) for Computer Science, financial support is limited to public K–12 school educators. As such, private and independent school educators, expanded learning educators, pre-service teachers, and substitute teachers are not eligible for participation or a stipend in the Summer of CS, including the CSPD Week workshops offered in Anaheim from June 23-27, 2025. These eligibility criteria are in alignment with Assembly Bill 185, which prioritizes professional learning for teachers and paraprofessionals in California public schools.
