The Summer of CS is a research-backed professional learning program designed for teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, and counselors working in California public schools.
This summer, multi-day workshops will be offered to help educators across California deliver equity-minded computer science (CS) instruction. Participants will gain practical tools and access to a supportive network focused on fostering the next generation of critical thinkers and problem solvers in our increasingly digitized world.
Each of the seven regions throughout California will offer 3-day summer workshops specifically for K–5 educators. The regions include:
- Far North Partnerships
- North Bay/North Coast Collaborative
- Capital Central Foothill Area
- Bay Area Consortium for Student Success
- Mid-State Collaborative
- Valley to Coast Collaborative
- Southern California System of Support
Participation Details:
There is an 18-hour time commitment required to ensure full and active participation in this learning opportunity.
Participants will receive:
- High-quality, no-cost professional learning facilitated by subject matter experts
- Teacher-ready resources aligned with the California K–12 Computer Science Standards
- A supportive community of educators passionate about teaching CS content
- A daily stipend to compensate for full and active participation
Learner Outcomes
- Implement CS instruction using the curriculum and pedagogical strategies provided through the regional Summer of CS workshop during the 2025–2026 school year. Commitment for K–5 teachers and paraprofessionals: 30 hours
- Prioritize instructional time for a diverse group of students, including—but not limited to—those historically underrepresented in the field of computer science
- Participate in data collection activities, such as surveys and focus group meetings, to support the ongoing improvement of EWIG:CS Seasons of CS professional learning and CS instruction implementation. These activities will be scheduled outside of traditional school hours

Number of Units: 1.0 graduate level extension credit(s) in semester hours

California public school K–5 educators who participate in professional learning outside of their regular work hours are eligible to take part in the Summer of CS and receive a stipend.
Please note: Due to funding restrictions under the Educator Workforce Investment Grant (EWIG) in Computer Science, only educators from California public K–12 schools are eligible.
As a result, the following groups are not eligible for participation or stipends:
- Private and independent school educators
- Expanded learning educators
- Pre-service teachers
- Substitute teachers
These eligibility guidelines align with Assembly Bill 185, which prioritizes professional learning opportunities for teachers and paraprofessionals in California’s public schools.
