Course Description

Credit Validation for DoDEA Participants Only

This 5-week, 2-credit continuing education course is designed for educators looking to enhance their teaching practice by integrating Kagan Cooperative Learning, Total Participation Techniques, and Thinking Routines. Participants will explore practical strategies to foster student engagement, collaboration, and critical thinking in the classroom. The course includes three online modules, three in-person meetings, job-embedded coaching and modeling with the instructor, and reflective opportunities to support ongoing professional growth.

Learner Outcomes

  • Gain an understanding of a variety of research-based, high-quality strategies that can be applied to increase student engagement in classroom instruction
  • Plan at least 3 lessons using 6 self-selected instructional strategies, including 2 Kagan Cooperative Learning strategies, 2 Total Participation Techniques, and 2 Thinking Routines
  • Deliver at least 3 lessons using the 6 self-selected instructional strategies to gain practical experience in increasing student engagement
  • Reflect on the implementation of each self-selected instructional strategy

Number of Units: 2.0 graduate level extension credit(s) in semester hours
