This program will provide candidates with a strong foundation in the basic concepts and principles of applied behavior analysis (ABA) within the context of autism treatment and person-centered approaches. This course is designed for workforce development to address an immediate and broad service need. It serves as the foundation for the next steps in advanced education and training in ABA and autism.

Learner Outcomes
- Identify the principles and values underlying developmental disability support services within the school setting
- Define professionalism and demonstrate an understanding of the responsibilities of educational support staff regarding professionalism
- Describe Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), its five subtypes, and behaviors that may indicate possible ASD
- Identify key people and organizations in Autism research and explain why Autism is considered a biological condition
- Explain the current prevalence of Autism in the United States and discuss possible reasons for its increase
- Describe the causes of Autism, the role of challenging behaviors, and strategies for addressing and responding to these behaviors
