Course Description

Credit Validation for CGEP Participants Only

From March 7-9, 2025, in Burlingame, CA, PK-12 teachers will gather for the annual CCSS Conference for Social Studies Educators. This year's theme is Change & Continuity in Social Studies. A variety of keynote speakers, sessions, and workshops will provide educators with valuable information and strategies for effectively teaching and learning Social Studies, as outlined in the state framework, standards, and initiatives (e.g., State Seal of Civic Engagement, Ethnic Studies, Global Education, Literacy, Media Literacy, UTK, California Model Curriculum, etc.).

Learner Outcomes

  • Gain a deeper understanding of key issues and changes in teaching Social Studies in California (history, geography, economics, civics, government, etc.)
  • Develop skills and strategies for teaching historical analysis, evaluation, point of view, chronology, spatial thinking, and reasoning
  • Access resources (e.g., primary sources, maps, videos, articles, books, etc.) to enhance teaching and learning from multiple perspectives
  • Expand knowledge, resources, and skills for teaching civic engagement, ethnic studies, social and emotional learning, literacy, current events, and other key issues/topics

Course Details

Number of Units: 1.0 - 2.0 graduate level extension credit(s) in semester hours. Please choose unit selection upon checkout.

Who Should Attend: This course provides continuing education for CGEP Participants.
