Course Description

Credit Validation for DoDEA Participants Only

This course will guide School Psychologists in the Mid-Atlantic District through the process of completing a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) and using the data collected from the FBA to develop a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) for an individually selected case study. The course outcome is the successful completion of both an FBA and a corresponding BIP.

Learner Outcomes

Describe relevant factors, such as DoDEA guidance and case law, that guide the development of a legally defensible functional behavior assessment and behavior intervention plan
Identify conditions under which a functional behavior assessment (FBA) is warranted and available school resources that support the process
Outline the components of a comprehensive FBA
Conduct an FBA based on a student case
Select replacement behaviors, antecedent strategies, and consequence interventions based on behavioral function for behavior intervention plan (BIP) development
Explain steps for proposing, training, and monitoring the BIP
Write a BIP based on information from a case study and prepare to submit it for feedback

The University of San Diego partners with this program to offer graduate-level extension credit(s) in semester hours through the Credit Validation Program. To earn units, participants must register for and successfully complete coursework through the external program provider.

Credits earned through USD’s Credit Validation Program are widely accepted by many school districts and universities across the United States for purposes such as license renewal, required professional development hours, short-term skill building, salary advancement, credentialing, and potential advanced degree pathways.
