Implementing Pre-AP ELA 2 & ELA 10 AP Seminar - EDC-X793X
Course Description
Credit Validation for DoDEA Participants Only
Pre-AP ELA 2 and ELA 10 AP Seminar are new DoDEA courses that will replace Honors ELA 9 and Honors ELA 10. This course is designed to help teachers transition from the honors courses to the requirements needed to implement the new AP offerings. Teachers will utilize current curricular resources (HMH, Model Units, Honors 9/10 Guidance, Novels) and the College Board Course Guide to create instructional resources, lessons, assessments, and more for use in the implementation of the courses.
In alignment with our RAP goal of "intentional planning to deliver daily explicit instruction for writing across the curriculum," this course will provide teachers with opportunities to co-plan lessons, activities, and assessments; teach lessons as developed and planned; reflect on the effectiveness of lessons, activities, and assessments; analyze assessment outcomes for student success; provide feedback; adjust instruction to meet the needs of current students; and fine-tune lessons for the next school year.
Additionally, teachers will have the opportunity to participate in a Community of Practice once a month, as well as receive instructional coaching as needed.
Learner Outcomes
- Participate in a community of practice where educators share ideas and resources as they become familiar with the standards and pacing of Pre-AP course demands on students and teachers
- Utilize and locate College Board resources, and identify DoDEA-approved resources that can be used or may be needed to build their Pre-AP course plan.
- Design lessons and model units that align with the research-supported instructional principles common to all Pre-AP courses: close observation and analysis, evidence-based writing, higher-order questioning, and academic conversation
- Use reflective and collaborative practices to analyze and adjust lessons and model units that will be shared with and used by other DoDEA teachers
- Analyze student work on Pre-AP assessments, provide actionable feedback to students, and develop interventions/enrichments to support student growth
