Course Description

Core Instruction provides a wealth of relevant pedagogy and AVID strategies that are appropriate across all age groups and student grade levels. With a focus on academic language and discourse and inquiry-based instruction, educators will explore how they can leverage AVID's evidence-based, instructional best practices to support the diverse needs of all students. This course is designed for teacher leaders to both utilize and facilitate strategies from the Core Instruction Modules within their respective school site. Teacher leaders will facilitate the Core Instruction Module synchronously as a full staff, AVID site team, or by department.
Learner Outcomes
- Develop instructional routines and instructional aides to support students in navigating rigorous academic conversations as academic language learners and learning architects
- Use inquiry-based tools to foster a community of learners that provides students with opportunities to think critically, ask higher level questions, engage in rich tasks through the use of academic discourse, and facilitate higher-level conversations with their peers
- Build students' confidence by supporting the ways in which students think, explore, and engage in academic discourse through inquiry-based instruction
