Bring Art Into Your Classroom to Inspire Creativity and Learning
Infusing Art into the 21st Century Classroom: The Elements of Art for the K-5 Classroom will introduce the basics of art (color, line, shape, form, texture, value and space). Art making can inspire curiosity, openness, and dialogue. Early art appreciation will stimulate creative thinking and interdisciplinary learning. The extremely important influence of culture and history will be communicated. Teachers can adjust provided art lesson plans into their K-5 curriculum and fulfill state/district standards. Through viewing art, discussing it, and creating artwork teachers will go through the same creative process their students will.
Learner Outcomes
- Discover the elements of art
- Create art projects that can be implemented in the K-5 classroom
- Understand popular Western art terminology, artists and their artwork
- Appreciate art by learning how to write a critique and describe artists and their artwork
- Create artworks inspired by the element of art lesson
- Articulate the meaning of a self-created art piece and communicate why it is significant through written reflection
- Incorporate Common Core State Standards with art lessons learned
- Practice with different mediums to create art
Course Details
Number of Units: 3.0 graduate level extension credit(s) in semester hours
Who Should Attend: This course provides continuing education for teachers (Grades K-5) who want to implement art in the classroom beginning with the elements of art.
Requirements Needed:
- Art supplies for assigned art projects can be found in the classroom or at home, or at your nearby art supply store (paint, paper, pen, scissors, pastels/charcoal, markers, crayons, etc.)
- Access to a digital camera or camera phone to complete certain assignments and to include images of completed course assignments
- Access to the Internet (Online coursework submission is required)
