  • Learn the fundamentals of ‘local’ SEO and execute some basic local SEO tactics and techniques on a geo-targeted website
  • Understand best practices for page and/or site redirection
  • Write optimized website URLs, title tags, and meta descriptions
  • Manage and/or execute a complete keyword research process from start to finish as well as evaluate competitor's keywords and strategies
  • Use advanced search operators to unearth new link building opportunities
  • Execute broken link building initiatives
  • Build and execute content marketing campaigns which includes: executing content marketing research, executing competitive research, creating link assets, executing basic social promotional strategies, and executing webmaster outreach
  • Perform basic tactics for outsourcing content creation and/or other parts of the content marketing process 
  • Employ different types of web analytic tools
  • Understand and leverage user behavior

Fundamentals of SEO and Marketing Analytics Program Curriculum

The online Fundamentals of Search Engine Optimization and Marketing Analytics Program consists of three online “fixed date” practical-based courses in core search engine optimization and marketing analytics best practices. All three courses are required to earn an award of completion.

To successfully complete this program, participants must, complete all required course work with a C or better.

Our instructors, most of whom hold advanced degrees, are experienced practitioners and subject matter experts who engage each student in a stimulating and participative learning environment. Meet your Fundamentals of SEO and Marketing Analytics Program instructors: 

Cody Bollerman has 12 years of experience in the digital marketing industry. Prior to starting his own digital marketing consultancy, he worked for two leading marketing agencies in San Diego formerly serving as SEO manager. He’s led search marketing campaigns with leading brands such as; DJO Global Inc., Synteract Inc., and Overstock.com. Cody holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing from California State University San Marcos. He also holds various certifications in the digital marketing space such as; Google Adwords & Google Analytics certification.

Alan Bush is a premier digital marketing expert in the field. With over a decade of experience, Bush has held the Director role at multiple agencies, worked on hundreds of clients (both Fortune 500 and startups) as well as co-created and co-hosted two Internet marketing podcasts with international followings. In addition, some of his current projects include working with the latest website optimization, content distribution, influencer outreach as well as SEM techniques and strategies in conjunction with web analytics and Social Media marketing. Public speaker, guest lecturer, and panelist. Co-created and co-hosted two premiere internet marketing podcasts, and co-host and producer of two additional podcasts.

What is SEO?

Search engine optimization (SEO) is a marketing discipline focused on growing visibility in organic (non-paid) search engine results. SEO encompasses both the technical and creative elements required to improve rankings, drive traffic, and increase awareness in search engines. SEO is making sure your business shows up within the organic results for your specific audience.

Do courses need to be taken in sequence?

Yes, this 12-week program was created to be taken in sequence and is cohort-based, starting with course, MKT-X830 SEO: Principles and Onsite Optimization.

How long are courses?

Each course is 4 weeks. Courses are taught in an Online-Fixed Date modality. Learn more about the Online-Fixed Date format, here.

What textbooks are required?

No, all course materials are shared through our online learning platform Blackboard.

What is the drop/transfer policy?

Funds placed on account do not expire and can be used toward courses offered through or in affiliation with the Division of Professional and Continuing Education. To put the funds on your student account, please call (619) 260-4585 or email continuinged@sandiego.edu.

  • Drop on or before 3rd day of 1st class - Refund minus 10% ($94.50) of the total program cost (or full credit of $950 on account)
  • Students are eligible to transfer courses within a bundle as long as it is requested within the 3rd day of the start of each course

A full refund is processed without penalty if PCE cancels the course.

Note: Students who do not submit a drop and have not submitted assignments to complete the course by the time of grading will be graded as NG (no grade).
