Registration Policies
Refund/Drop Policy
Students who need to drop a course may receive a refund, if the request is received according to the policies listed below by course Instructional Method.
Please note, to avoid the processing fees associated with course drops, students can elect to put the full amount of funds on their student account for future use. These funds do not expire and can be used toward courses offered through or in affiliation with the Division of Professional and Continuing Education. To put the funds on your student account, please call (619) 260-4585 or email continuinged@sandiego.edu.
- Classroom Courses: To drop a course and receive a refund, students need to drop the course through the MyPCE@USD student account portal by midnight on the first day of the course. The refund of the course fee will be returned less a processing fee of 10% or $50, whichever is greater, of the course tuition.
- Online Fixed-Date Courses (OFD): To receive a refund, students need to drop the course through the MyPCE@USD student account portal before midnight on the third day of the course. The refund of the course fee will be returned less a processing fee of 10% or $50, whichever is greater, of the course tuition. No refunds will be issued after this deadline.
- Online Self-Paced (OSP) and Independent Study (IS) Courses: To drop a course and receive a refund, students need to drop the course through the MyPCE@USD student account portal within three business (3) days of registration. The refund of the course fee will be returned less a processing fee of 10% or $50, whichever is greater, of the course tuition. Refund requests will not be processed after this 3 business-day period.
- Credit Validation Courses (CV): All Credit Validation enrollments are refundable, less a $25 fee, if a drop is requested within 30 days of enrollment date. There will be no refunds for Credit Validation after the allotted 30 days.
- Certificate & Application Fees: Are non-refundable.
A full refund is processed without penalty if PCE cancels the course.
Note: Students who do not submit a drop and have not submitted assignments to complete the course by the time of grading will be graded as NG (no grade).
Transfer Policy
Students can request a transfer, if the request is received according to the policies listed below by course Instructional Format. No transfers will be issued after the deadline.
The Transfer Request must be sent from MyPCE@USD student account portal and be received as follows:
Classroom Courses: By midnight on the first day of the course.
Credit Validation: Within 30 days of registration.
Online Fixed-Date Courses: By midnight on the third day of the course.
Online Self-Paced and Independent Study Courses: Within three business days of registration.
Course Cancellation Policy
USD recommends that you enroll no later than five days prior to the start date of class to help us to determine if a class will run or not.
USD reserves the right to cancel courses that do not meet minimum enrollment requirements before they begin or to discontinue those courses after the first meeting on the start date. If a course canceled for any reason, enrolled students will receive an email notification and receive the option for a refund of any tuition fees, transfer fees toward another open course, or to put funds on account for future use.
Bundle Drop/Refund Policy
- If students have not yet enrolled in any courses in their bundle, they will be eligible to drop the bundle less a processing fee of 10% or $50, whichever is greater.
- Once a student enrolls for their first course in the bundle, they will be eligible to drop the course/bundle for a refund less a processing fee until the drop deadline has passed for their first course (Please see registration policies above to find the respective drop policy for the course format).
- Once the drop deadline has passed for the first course in the bundle, students will no longer be eligible to drop the bundle and receive a refund.
Bundle Transfer Policy
- Students are eligible to transfer courses within a bundle as long as it is requested within the transfer deadline for the respective course format (Please see registration policies above to find the respective transfer policy for the course format). Transfer requests must be submitted before the bundle enrollment deadline.
